The following steps are for setting up monitoring on one MikroTik router at a time.
> Click here to log into Monro Cloud Monitoring.
> Log in with either your mobile number or email address.
> The following requires a Proxy Server to be created to securely send the data to the cloud.
> If you have not installed a proxy yet, follow this simple 10 minute guide.
Before proceeding, let's make sure the connection to the proxy is working.
> From within the Monro Cloud Monitoring Dashboard, click Monitoring.
> Click Hosts.
> You will see a default host called Gateway-CompanyName
> Click Latest Data
> If the Last Value is less than 5 minutes, the proxy is syncing correctly.
> If it is greater than 5 minutes, contact support at support@monrocloud.com if you need assistance.
Now that we have confirmed the Proxy and Monro Cloud are talking, lets setup SNMP on the MikroTik device.
In this example we will use a MikroTik Router on version 7.20.8 (long-term).
> Log into your MikroTik Router.
> Navigate to IP > SNMP.
> Click Communities in the center of the page.
> Click New.
> Enter a username as Name.
> Set Security to Private.
> Set Authentication Protocol to SHA1.
> Set Encryption Protocol to AES.
> Enter secure passphrases.
> Click Ok.
> On the main SNMP page, enable SNMP.
> Click Apply.
We now need to setup proxy rules so Monro Cloud knows which devices to manage.
to access the tool.
> Select Yes
> Enter the email address registered with your account.
> Enter your Company name (Monitoring > Hosts > Gateway-CompanyName)
> Enter the IP range as either: single IP address, a range like 10.10.56.0-255 or multiple ranges like 10.10.56.0-255, 10.11.56.0-255.
> Enter the same Authentication Passphrase from previous steps.
> Enter the same Privacy Passphrase from previous steps.
> Click Create Discovery Rule.
Note: If you have setup Proxy Rules already and they cover the same IP range, you will not need to do this again.
> Wait a few minutes for the verification to complete.
> You will be presented with your current discovery rules.
> If you have made a mistake, simply navigate to Delete Proxy Rules
to delete them and start again.
> If you accidentally closed the page, use this tool to Get a List of Proxy Rules
.
Note: If you have setup Proxy Rules already and they cover the same IP range, you will not need to do this again.
Behind the scenes, many automated tasks have been completed for you and you can now see your active devices.
Inside your Monro Cloud Monitoring account:
> Select Data Collection > Hosts
> You should now see the FortiGate device, in this example the device was called MikroTik
> 12 Default Items are already monitoring your device such as Ping and Device Uptime.
> Step 11 will show you how to configure more granular monitoring.
> Click on your host from Data Collection > Hosts.
> Click Unlink next to Generic by SNMP.
> Click Select next to Templates.
> Click Select again.
> Select Templates/Network devices.
> Select Mikrotik by SNMP or any other relevant template.
> Click Update.
> You will now see an extensive list of Items against the device.
> Select Dashboards to see active information about your FortiGate appliance.
